2018 Make Nine Wrapup
Better late than never for a wrap up of last year's #MakeNine challenge and then I'll share the plan for 2019 in my next post!
Here was the grid from 2018's challenge:

I had the goal of not only making 9 new items from patterns I had mostly never used before, but also to only use fabric from my stash for all of them. So I did manage to make 6 of the 9 things on this list and I used the fabric pictured for all but one of those makes! Huzzah! A pretty good success in my books. I will say that the two things I had on the list that were going to be "stretch goals", jeans and a bathing suit, I didn't complete so that's a little disappointing. But there is always this year!
Completed items (with their blog posts linked when available):
Ogden Cami by True Bias x2!
Moji Pants by Seamwork
Inari Tee Dress by Named Patterns + a Inari Tee shirt x2
Anna Dress by By Hand London
B6453 by Gertie for Butterick
Carolyn Pjs by Closet Case Files
Did not complete (or start, womp womp):
Clara Swimsuit by Swimstyle
Ginger Jeans by Closet Case Files
K4104 by Kwik Sew
Here are some pictures of all of the items I completed from the list, including the duplicate items of the same pattern:
Ogden Camis - True Bias
I made two Ogden Camis this year - one regular straight out of the package (printer) and one with a fun pleated skirt hack. I made both in size 6, based on my bust measurement, with no alterations to the fit. For the one with the pleated add-on I think I might go back and add in a bust dart since the weight of the skirt kind of messes with the drape of the front and causes this not super flattering bulk of fabric to swing/hang/pool over my stomach. For the pleats I really should have done some math to figure out exactly how much fabric I needed to cut in order to get even pleats all the way around - my fault for being lazy - and had to add in another chunk of fabric, but it;s all hidden in the pleats so I don't mind.
I would definitely make this pattern again, it's great for when you don't have very much of something left - a stash buster!
These pants were the first thing I checked off of the Make 9 list, they turned out really cute and I did wear them a lot through the spring and summer. They aren't perfect - I wrote a blog post about the fitting issues I had and I think after wearing them a bunch I've figure out how to fix them. I want to add some elastic to the waist so that when I untie them they don't immediately fall down, and I've decided the length is a little too short so I am going to add a cuff with elastic to the bottom too, for a cute joggers look.
This dress pattern is super popular across the online sewing community and I was looking forward to trying it out. I had this great fabric from Tanzania that I wanted to feature the design on so that was a perfect match since there are so few seams. I also made a top to go over my jumpsuit for a more complete outfit look and then another top to go with the pleated Ogden cami since the colours of the fabric coordinated so well together. The only thing I don't love about this pattern is the sleeve cap height is so short that you don't get great arm mobility.
Anna Dress (Christmas Dress!)
This was the last Make Nine item I made for the year, and the only pattern I had used before. I made the same size as when I made this pattern a couple of years ago, but I probably should have sized up one size as this fabric is not very forgiving. I did decide to make this the same day as the event I wanted to wear it to, so that didn't exactly leave time for fiddling around with fit. I think it still looked pretty, even if I was a little squished in, and I got lots of compliments at the dinner we went to.
This Gertie dress, as I call it, was pretty easy to sew, I ended up making it a little too big and had to take some width out at the waist last minute, and a bit at the back by the zipper. This was the first lapped zipper I ever did and I really loved that feature, nice and easy and you don't have to go looking for the perfect invisible zip. Only problem is it's hard to adjust the fit after it's been sewn in.
Carolyn PJs by Closet Case Files
Comfy cozy Carolyn Pajamas! I love how these look together but if I'm being honest I mostly only wear the shorts. I think part of that is because of the hard time I had with getting the collar right so it never sits flat. But also because I prefer to sleep in a regular tshirt and then when I'm lounging around it's never warm enough not to have a sweater on lol. I think I will still make a pants version of this, maybe a long sleeve top but after the difficulty with this thick fabric and that collar it would have to be from much lighter weight fabrics.
That's all for the 2018 make nine! I did sew a lot of other things last year that weren't on this list of to-dos - some of which I blogged about. Here are some pictures of those items!
