2018 Make Nine Sewing Goals

Happy 2018 everyone! 2017 was a great year for my sewing life since I now live in my own home, with my own sewing room and I can sew whenever I want! Not that I was very hard done by before in my mom's house, but I always felt a little guilty using the dinning room as my sewing area since projects sometimes would stretch on for a couple days... or weeks. Sorry Mom!

I even did a little make-over on my sewing room this summer so that it's all fresh and airy. Maybe I'll post a story about that some day when I've finally unpacked all of my boxes of fabric and patterns and it looks pretty.

Since I was pretty productive last year I decided to try and set out some sewing goals for my self this year with the "Make 9" challenge that is floating around the internet. I have posted the classic grid photo on my Instagram here, but I wanted to go more in depth here cause that's what blogs are for! Adding onto this challenge I am also going to try and use patterns and fabric I already have in my stash, because after repainting my sewing room I so desperately want everything to be tidy! And the stash be cray.

1. Ogden Cami by True Bias - pretty floral flowy something-something fabric that was gifted to me by a friend! Though I have a feeling I will be making many of these, such a useful wardrobe piece.

2. Moji Pants by Seamwork - purple fabric with darker purple dashes, I have had this fabric for a very long time, it's super soft, maybe like a lightweight twill? The kind of fabric that would make a really great lightweight military style jacket but not the right pattern for it.

3. Clara Swimsuit by Swim Style - I actually found this pattern just by googling one-piece swimsuit patterns until I found one that looked like what I wanted, I had never heard of Swim Style before but this was exactly what I was looking for. I have also never actually sewn a bathing suit before, so all sorts of firsts! I bought the fabric to spur on this new adventure and it was on sale too!

4. Inari Tee Dress by Named Patterns - the fabric for this one is a special, I bought it in Tanzania when I was there a couple years ago with my mom and sister climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. The pattern calls for wovens so hopefully the thinker cotton fabric is good for this!

5. Anna Dress by By Hand London - I have made the Anna dress once before and I love that dress. This time I'm sewing it up in a red satin, I don't know if I will do a full length one again or go for a shorter version which I would probably get more opportunities to wear... we shall see how dramatic I'm feeling at the time and if I remembered to buy enough fabric for a full length gown. There are always Christmas Parties!

6. Ginger Jeans by Closet Case Files - The denim I have set aside for this is probably very poorly suited for the pattern since I think it has like zero stretch ... but this is the jeans pattern I have and this is the denim I have... really I should buy the Morgan jeans. Anyways, I will make jeans, hopefully these ones, but we shall see. I also have this cute cotton for the pockets, and good golden top stitching thread so almost all set, just need hardware.

I actually bought this yellow fabric a year ago with this pattern in mind with the hopes of making it for my sister for her birthday in 2017, maybe it will still happen! I think maybe I will make the dark one for me first, to get a feel for the pattern, and from there decide if it's possible to make a fitted dress for someone who lives a million miles away haha. (She lives in Australia and I do not).

8. Carolyn Pajamas by Closet Case Files - I have some soft, thick, flannel destined for a long sleeves and shorts version of the Carolyn pjs.

9. Kwik Sew K4104 - going to make a pretty pink coat that I may or may not add a closure to, also I forgot to buy lining when I bought these so maybe I can find a fun polka dot or something for the inside.

That's it! I also want to make the Axel Skirt by Megan Neilsen and the Esther pants by Victory Patterns but I didn't put them on the list because I don't have the perfect fabric for them so they didn't fit into the challenge of using up the stash fabric.
