First Day of Me Made May!
In the online sewing world there is the awesome tradition called "Me Made May" which has been going strong for 8 years now and is "hosted" by Zoe from So, Zo.. What do you know? The basic premise is that makers across the web make a pledge to wear a certain amount of self-made items through the month of May in order to challenge themselves to get in touch with their handmade wardrobe. This helps you take stock of what you have and how you wear it and for me it will mean I make an effort to reach for those things more often! The added bonus is there are a lot more me-made outfits being posted all over social media to oogle at!
So to start off here is I my pledge as a participant of Me-Made-May '17: I endeavour to wear two me-made items each week for the duration of May 2017 and to finish two WIP this month before starting anything new!
My main challenge is that most of my completed outfits are either too fancy for the office (floor length dresses and sexy rompers don't really scream Business Casual) or completely stay at home casual... So that is why I have made the lame commitment of 2 items a week, though I am definitely hoping to be able to beat by goal! Maybe by next year I will have enough practical self made clothes that I can wear something every day :D

So for the first day I only made the top ... BUT I altered the skirt to fit so this kind of counts as one and a half me-made items in my opinion. The top is a very recent make, using the new and improved Colette Sobretto tank pattern (which in case you didn't know is a FREE pattern!) I decided to draft facings instead of using bias binding since I wanted a smooth finish on the neckline with the inverted box pleat. The facings worked out great in the front but the back refuses to lie flat which is annoying. It's not a huge deal since I usually wear a sweater or blazer at work anyways (see next photo below).

The skirt is from Joe Fresh and I love how well it matches with the colour of the shirt, which I had made before this arrived in the mail. They were made for each other! I am really into the shape of this skirt which totally reminds me of the me of the Axel Skirt from Megan Nielsen patterns (version 3). If I want to make a ready to wear dupe of this that is totally the pattern I would use! Or I might just trace this one... cause I am a lazy sewer like that.

That's it for this blog post, I am going to keep posting on Instagram during the month, and probably here as well, but in case I only get a mirror selfie I'm not going to make any firm promises.
